los autobuses

i ride a bus every morning to school and some afternoons back from school (especially when it is raining) and it is an adventure.

this is where we usually are every morning when the bus rolls past us and we miss it. luckily they come about every 4-7 minutes so we're usually okay, even when we do miss 3 in a row. they are very unstructured here, it's not uncommon to see 2 or 3 of the same number just one after another.

this is our bus stop that we wait at every morning...

and this is what it looks like from the back of the bus in the middle of the day when nobody needs the bus. i'm the only one on it.

some funny things we have noticed about riding the bus:

1. there are only 2 girl bus drivers that i have ever noticed. the rest are all men.

2. the men bus drivers all talk to/wave to each other when they drive past each other. as in they full on stop their busses in the middle of the road and lean out their windows and have a chat.

3. when one of the women bus drivers drive by a male bus driver, the men won't talk to the women and just ignore them.

stay tuned for the next in this series on public transportation in spain, part 2: using the trains!, and part 3: the metro in madrid...
