the 12th of october

who knew that the 12th of october was such an important day in spain? well, turns out that it is the National Holiday of Spain, or Hispanic Day (this is all fact, according to wikipedia). it is a holiday held to commemorate not the day of birth of a certain female mormon 19-year-old tourist, but the exact day that cristopher columbus first set food on the americas. it is important enough that there is a metro stop named after it in madrid... and i of course had to travel there and get a picture to prove the wonderful importance of 10/12.
